Who runs it

My name is Matias Langsam. I live and work in Brooklyn, New York, and I operate this service as a sole proprietor — there is no company behind it and no staff. I describe myself plainly here because the phone carriers that deliver these text messages reasonably expect to know who stands behind a number, and because anyone trusting a service with their reminders deserves to know who is on the other end.

Why it exists

I use a basic mobile phone with no apps and no internet. That is a deliberate choice, but it means the ordinary conveniences of a smartphone — a reminder, a list, a quick lookup — are not available to me. So I built an assistant that works entirely over text message, which my phone does handle. It turned out to be useful to other people in the same position, or who simply prefer texting, so I have opened it to a small number of them.

How it is built

Tom runs on Cloudflare's network and uses Anthropic's Claude model to understand what you write. Messages travel over a regulated telephone carrier. What it remembers on your behalf is stored in a private database that I control, and each subscriber's reminders, tasks and notes are kept separate from everyone else's.

Scale and scope

This is a small service, deliberately. Access is by invitation, nothing is sold here, and there is no open sign-up. I am not trying to grow it quickly; I am trying to keep it working well for the people using it. If that changes, this page will change with it.
